SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 12: Social Welfare Department (SWD), SANKALP-HEW Srinagar, organised awareness programmes at Rangpora and Illahi Bagh Srinagar to sensitise the public about various scholarships, sponsorship assistance, skill development courses and other social security schemes aimed at supporting eligible beneficiaries and promoting their social and economic empowerment.
The programmes, as per an official statement, were organised to enhance awareness among the community regarding the benefits and eligibility criteria of various welfare initiatives and to encourage eligible individuals and families to avail themselves of the assistance available through the Department of Social Welfare. Special emphasis was laid on reaching out to vulnerable sections of society, including children in need of care and protection, girls, women and economically disadvantaged families.
During the awareness sessions, participants were informed about various scholarship opportunities available for eligible students to support their education and help prevent school dropouts. Detailed information was also shared regarding sponsorship support for eligible children, skill development and vocational training courses for improving employability, and other social security schemes intended to provide assistance to deserving beneficiaries.
In addition, the Department in collaboration with Mission Poshan at Illahi Bagh, celebrated International Girl Child Day 2026 under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative.

The programme highlighted the significance of girls’ education, gender equality, adequate nutrition, healthcare and protection from discrimination. Participants were sensitised about the need to challenge gender-based stereotypes and ensure that girls receive equal opportunities in education, nutrition, personal development and participation in society.
The Department of Social Welfare Srinagar reaffirmed its commitment to taking welfare initiatives to the grassroots level and ensuring wider public awareness about scholarships, sponsorship assistance, skill development opportunities and social security schemes. Such outreach programmes will continue to strengthen community engagement, promote inclusive development and facilitate access to government assistance for eligible beneficiaries across Srinagar district.
