ANANTNAG, OCTOBER 29: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Dr Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, Thursday chaired a meeting of the District Telecom Committee at the DC Office Complex, Anantnag, to review various issues pertaining to telecommunication services and the progress of telecom infrastructure development in the district.

During the meeting, the Chair, as per an official statement, was apprised of the progress achieved in the establishment and upgradation of telecom infrastructure across the district.

It was informed that work on most of the identified sites is in progress, while several other sites are nearing completion. The meeting was further informed that telecom towers are being upgraded in a phased manner, alongside the construction of new towers, to strengthen network coverage, improve connectivity and ensure the delivery of quality telecommunication services to the public.

While reviewing the bottlenecks affecting the pace of execution, the Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for close coordination and cooperation among all concerned departments, service providers and other stakeholders.

He directed the officers concerned to maintain effective and real-time communication to promptly address issues arising during the implementation of telecom infrastructure projects.

Emphasising the vital role of telecommunications in socio-economic development, public service delivery and overall connectivity, the DC stated that reliable communication services are essential for facilitating development and ensuring convenient access to services for the people, particularly in areas with inadequate network coverage.

The DC directed the telecom service providers, including BSNL, Jio and Airtel, to expedite the ongoing works, remove operational bottlenecks and ensure the provision of reliable, seamless and hassle-free services to consumers across the district. He also stressed the need for timely implementation of the BharatNet project to strengthen digital connectivity and improve access to communication services in rural and remote areas.

Revenue officers were directed to facilitate the identification and allotment of suitable land for the installation of telecom towers and to resolve land-related issues and other impediments, if any, that may hamper the execution of projects. They were asked to extend all necessary support to ensure that work progresses smoothly and within the stipulated timelines.

The DC reiterated that all concerned departments and telecom service providers must work in close coordination to address connectivity-related challenges, accelerate infrastructure development and ensure that the benefits of improved telecommunication services reach every area of the district.

The meeting was attended by the Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR), Superintending Engineer (SE), KPDCL, officers from the Public Works Department (PWD), Assistant Commissioner Panchayat (ACP), Tehsildars, Divisional Forest Officers of Lidder and Bijbehara, and representatives of BSNL, Airtel, Jio, Indus Towers and other concerned departments and agencies.
