Srinagar, Oct 29: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting to review preparations for Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, or National Unity Day, across Jammu and Kashmir.

Observed each year on the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the day honours his contribution to India’s unification.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, DGP Nalin Prabhat, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Chandraker Bharti, senior police and civil administration officials, divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners, SSPs and other officials, both in person and virtually.

The Lieutenant Governor directed officials to ensure smooth and peaceful arrangements for the ‘Run for Unity’ and the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas pledge, reflecting the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.

Calling for broad public participation, Sinha urged schoolchildren, youth, security personnel and citizens from all sections of society to take part in the observances.

He also directed that unity runs and ceremonial parades be organised at district headquarters and police stations, and that national unity programmes be held in prisons across Jammu and Kashmir.
