DC Shopian flags off anti-tobacco awareness rally

SHOPIAN, NOVEMBER 12: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Shishir Gupta Wednesday flagged off an Anti-Tobacco awareness rally from the Mini Secretariat, Shopian, marking the beginning of a 60-day Youth Campaign against tobacco use.

The rally, organized under the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) by the Health Department Shopian, aims to sensitize the youth and general public about the ill effects of tobacco consumption and to promote a tobacco-free society.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC emphasized the need for collective efforts to eradicate tobacco use from society. He highlighted that such awareness drives play a crucial role in shaping a healthy and responsible young generation.

The DC further urged educational institutions, health workers and NGOs to actively contribute towards spreading awareness in rural as well as urban areas and to ensure strict implementation of anti-tobacco laws.

The campaign will continue for two months with multiple activities including seminars, workshops and community outreach programmes across different blocks of Shopian district.CMO, Dr. Arshid Hussain Tak, BMOs, students, volunteers, health officials and members of civil society participated in the rally carrying placards and raising slogans against tobacco use.
