Srinagar, Nov 13: The School Education Department has tentatively decided to announce the winter vacations in a phased manner from the first week of December for the winter zone of Kashmir division.

Sources informed the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that Education Minister Sakina Itoo in a recent review meeting informed the officials of the department that the government will likely announce winter vacation for primary level classes from the first week of December.

The official sources further informed that in case of other classes upto 12th standard, the vacations are likely from the second week of December.

“The minister has selected the tentative dates keeping in view the ongoing weather conditions. The date of winter vacations may be changed and that too depends on the weather situation,” the official said.

It also said that since the new academic session has already begun, the department is trying to cover at least 10 percent of syllabi before the commencement of winter vacations.

Pertinently, the temperature in Kashmir region has plummeted drastically while the summer capital Srinagar on Wednesday recorded its coldest night of the season at minus 2.1 degrees Celsius. (KNO)
