Srinagar, Nov 19: Cricket fever is once again ready to grip the Valley as the 3rd Edition of the CRPF Cup 2025, is about to begin this week, bringing a wave of excitement among young cricketers and fans across central Kashmir.

Organised by the CRPF Srinagar Sector, the annual tournament, now in its third year has emerged as one of the region’s best anticipated local cricket events, offering a professional platform for grassroots players from Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal.

As per the details, each participating team comprises 16 registered players, including three under-19 and two under-23 players, a step designed to encourage youth participation and groom local talent for higher-level cricket.

“This tournament is not just about winning matches; it is about creating opportunities for our youth to showcase their talent,” said an official. He said, over the past two seasons, they have seen extraordinary performances from young players who are now representing local leagues and state teams. “That is the true success of the CRPF Cup,” he said.

Similarly, the 2025 edition will see 12 teams competing, with the final line-up decided through a district-wise draw. Six teams will represent Srinagar, while Budgam and Ganderbal will field three each. Four invited teams will also join the challenge.

Launched in 2023, the inaugural CRPF Cup drew over 20 teams and generated great local enthusiasm. Also, in 2024, the second edition expanded its reach with 16 teams, offering cash prizes and improved facilities. That season, the matches drew hundreds of spectators, reflecting the Valley’s growing appetite for competitive cricket.

Building on that legacy, this year’s edition is expected to be even more competitive, featuring young players eager to make their mark, alongside seasoned local cricketers who have been part of all previous tournaments.

“This has become Kashmir’s own T20 carnival,” said a local coach player from Srinagar. “The CRPF Cup gives young players a stage to dream big, right here in their own districts.”—(KNO)
