Directs for vigorous enforcement against drug menace

GANDERBAL, NOVEMBER 26: In order to assess and reinforce the anti-narcotics efforts in the district, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Jatin Kishore Wednesday chaired the monthly meeting of the District-Level Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD), here.

The meeting held a detailed discussion on the efforts of various departments and stakeholders in combating drug abuse in the district. DC took a department-wise review of progress on enforcement, awareness, treatment, and rehabilitation.

Officers from concerned departments including Excise, Drug Control, Health, Education, Agriculture, and Social Welfare presented updates against the Action Taken Report on directives issued in the previous NCORD meeting.

The DC among other issues reviewed cases registered under seizure of contraband substances falling under commercial quantities, monitoring of satellite imagery regarding illicit cultivations, cases registered under NDPS, suspension of Driving Licenses of offenders, identification of hotspots of drug use, etc.

Education and Social Welfare departments were directed to actively carry out awareness activities while Municipal Council Ganderbal and BDOs was instructed to paint graffitis’ to aware masses on harmful effects of substance abuse.

Stressing on tracking possible drug peddling through courier services, DC directed the concerned department to enhance surveillance measures and conduct joint exercises for random scanning to intercept the flow of illicit substances through courier services.

The DC directed SDM Kangan to conduct sub-divisional level NCORD meetings to arrest usage of contraband substances.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC stressed the need for an aggressive and coordinated strategy focusing on prevention, surveillance, and community engagement to combat the drug menace in the district.

The meeting was attended by the SSP Ganderbal, Khalil Ahmad Poswal; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Deputy Director Prosecution, Assistant Commissioner Development/ Panchayat, Sub-divisional Magistrate Kangan, Chief Education Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Agriculture Officer, Chief Executive Officer MC Ganderbal, Tehsildars, Block Development Officers, District Drug Inspector, and representatives from the, Excise Department, Intelligence Bureau, and other concerned departments.
