DC Kathua chairs NCORD meet, reviews drug control measures

KATHUA, NOVEMBER 28: Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rajesh Sharma today chaired a meeting of the District level Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) meeting to review the implementation and enforcement measures aimed at curbing the drug menace in the district.

The DC emphasised on identifying hotspots and directed the ADCs and SDMs to map areas with noticeable activities related to drugs and narcotic substances. He called for a coordinated approach to strengthen ground-level surveillance.

The School Education Department was instructed to enforce CCTV coverage in coaching centres and to take up installation of CCTVs in government schools in a phased manner with the support of CSR initiatives. Schools and colleges were also asked to conduct regular  counseling sessions for early identification of vulnerable students.

The Youth Services and Sports Department was directed to increase youth engagement by organising sports activities and providing sports equipment to encourage constructive participation and healthy lifestyle.

The Excise Department was asked to undertake detailed mapping of the district to detect illegal activities, along with intensifying enforcement across all vulnerable pockets.

To strengthen IEC activities in rural areas, the DC directed the District Panchayat Officer to coordinate with all stakeholders to consolidate awareness efforts at the grassroots level.

Police, BSF and other law enforcement agencies were instructed to enhance information sharing and adopt a coordinated strategy to check the source and syndicates involved in illegal trade. The DC also called for regular night patrolling, especially in border belts, highways and other sensitive areas.

The Transport Department was directed to conduct medical examinations of drivers involved in rash driving and take strict action including cancellation of licences in cases of drunk driving.

The Assistant Drug Controller was asked to intensify random checking of pharmaceutical outlets and ensure 100% CCTV and CBS coverage.

ADC Kathua, Vishavjeet Singh, CAO, DSWO, Principal GDCW, DySP Headquarters, Tehsildar Headquarters, ETO, DYSSO and officers from BSF and other concerned departments attended the meeting.
