Road discipline key to winter traffic management: DIG Mughal

Jammu, Nov 28: The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Traffic range Jammu, Dr Mohd Haseeb Mughal (IPS) Friday said that the road discipline by commuters and coordination among agencies is the key to better management during winters in the region.

DIG Mughal was on a visit to 4th Tawi Bridge near Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu wherein he conducted an on-ground inspection of the traffic flow, following continuous reports of congestion and slow movement of traffic in the areas like Canal Head, Bakshi Nagar and BC Road-Indira Chowk Jammu.

On the occasion, Mughal emphasized that road discipline by commuters and coordination among agencies is the key to better management during winters at Jammu.

DIG Mughal was accompanied by Amit Bhasin-JKPS, SSP Traffic City Jammu, Arvinder Singh Kotwal-JKPS, Addl. SP Traffic City Jammu and Satish Bhardwaj-JKPS, SDPO Bakshi Nagar.

The DTIs of their respective jurisdictions viz Inspector Rakesh Sambyal, DTI Bikram Chowk, SI Ravi Dutt, I/C DTI Talab Tillo, Inspector Anil Jad, DTI Bakshi Nagar and local territorial Police officers were also present at the inspection spot in their respective jurisdictions.

During the visit, the DIG Traffic reviewed the existing traffic regulation mechanisms, road conditions and peak-hour vehicle load. He interacted with field officers, traffic personnel, and local commuters to assess real-time issues affecting smooth vehicular movement

“Several bottlenecks were identified, including improper lane discipline, roadside parking, and heavy traffic pressure at the bridge approach. Taking immediate cognizance, the DIG Traffic issued on-spot directions to streamline traffic flow,” reads the statement.

He empathised upon deployment of additional traffic personnel especially during peak hours, removal of unauthorized parking and roadside obstructions near the bridge and strict enforcement of lane discipline for all types of vehicles.

“Ensuring coordination with District Police, JMC, Transporters and Traders- the stakeholders for signage, surface improvement and maintenance of road edges for better manoeuvrability and regulating the movement of heavy vehicles during peak hours to avoid slowdowns,” he added.

While addressing the media at the DIG said that the local road construction agency has taken over the assignment of construction of damaged portion of the road connecting Tawi bridge and appealed the public for cooperating the traffic and avoiding the road journey via 4th Tawi bridge for next two days, so that the road construction work at 4th Tawi bridge is completed on war-footing—(KNO)
