Pins hopes on Dec snow to revive sector after ‘challenging’ year

Srinagar, Nov 29: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday said that snowfall remains the biggest factor driving tourist footfall in the Valley, expressing hope for a good winter season ahead.

“Be it Pahalgam, Delhi, or Nowgam, this year has tested us. November has been dry, so far, and we are now pinning hopes on good snowfall in December,” the CM said while speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the launch of the Kashmir Chapter of SKAL International, a global travel and tourism network.

Omar said tourists continue to visit Pahalgam and other destinations across the Valley, but a fresh spell of snow would enhance the winter season’s prospects. “Snowfall is key to boost Kashmir’s tourism this season, and we are hopeful that Christmas and New Year will bring better times for the industry,” he said, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

As far as tourism is concerned, wherever there are business-to-business engagements, the industry stands to gain, the Chief Minister said.

“However, promotion and marketing remain the biggest contributors to growth,” he said, adding that 2025 has been a challenging year for the tourism sector.

It is important to mention that SKÅL International is a professional organisation for travel and tourism professionals that fosters friendship, business and networking worldwide.

Founded in 1934, it is the only global body that unites all sectors of the tourism industry, from managers to executives. Members meet at local, national, and international levels through clubs in about 75 countries to conduct business and build relationships. (KNO)
