Foundation Day of Assam, Nagaland celebrated in J&K Lok Bhavan

Jammu, Dec 03: The Foundation Day of Assam and Nagaland was celebrated in Jammu Kashmir Lok Bhavan in the presence of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. Statehood was officially conferred to Nagaland on 1 December 1963 while Assam celebrates its Foundation Day on 2nd December. The Foundation Day programme was organised as part of the ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ initiative of Government of India.

Addressing the gathering, LG Sinha said celebration of the foundation days of other states and Union Territories in the Lok Bhavans across the country has strengthened the cultural bonds and inspired citizens to learn about other state’s unique traditions, language while building a deep bond of brotherhood.

The Lieutenant Governor also paid tribute to Swargadeo Sukapha, founder of the Ahom kingdom, Lachit Borphukan, the renowned General of Ahom Army and Rani Gaidinliu, Naga spiritual and political leader who led a revolt against British rule in India.

“They had demonstrated courage and resilience and their bravery in face of adversity continue to inspire generations. The ideals of these great men and Rani Gaidinliu are empowering others to build a strong and self-reliant India,” he said.

The LG highlighted the literary and cultural heritage of Assam and Nagaland. He said the rich traditions are integrated into the larger fabric of Indian society and strengthening the spirit of “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat”.
