DODA, DECEMBER 04: District Level Advisory Committee (DLAC) on Food Safety Thursday finalised a reinforcement plan to strengthen food safety measures in District Doda

The meeting, as per an official statement, chaired by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Harvinder Singh, who also serves as Committee’s chairman, reviewed the implementation of the Food Safety and Standards Act-2006, while taking a string of decisions to strengthen coordination and the monitoring mechanism.

The meeting was attended by all Committee members, representatives of consumer organizations, Food Business Associations and functionaries from the enforcement departments.

Key decisions included periodic inspection of food business establishments to verify compliance of set norms, ensuring availability of well-equipped food testing labs along with timely NABL accreditation to strengthen scientific assessment of food quality.

Special stress was laid on strengthening the monitoring mechanism, including enforcement of rules; sample lifting, prosecution and adjudication under food safety laws. Promotion of fortified food across key welfare schemes such as ICDS, Mid-Day Meal Scheme and other nutritional safety nets was also stressed upon.

The meeting further decided to promote food safety and nutritional literacy among citizens through coordinated efforts under Ayushman Bharat, Poshan Abhiyan and Swachh Bharat Mission.

The DC emphasised that ensuring safe and healthy food for all citizens is a shared responsibility and called for collective efforts from government departments, food business operators and civil society to uphold the highest standards of food safety across the district.
