Situation in Ladakh is unfortunate: CM’s advisor

Raja Syed Rather

Jammu Oct 04: Advisor to the J&K Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani, Friday termed the situation in Ladakh as ‘very unfortunate’ saying the region has always been among the most patriotic and deserved better treatment.
“Ladakh has been one of the most patriotic regions. Treating its people this way is wrong. Either the promises made to them should not have been made or they should have been fulfilled,” Wani said.
Drawing a parallel with Jammu and Kashmir, he pointed out that the promise of restoring statehood was yet to be honoured.
“Despite assurances in the Supreme Court and in Parliament, statehood restoration promise also hasn’t been fulfilled yet. We hope the Government of India will think about it and resolve these issues through dialogue. Force against people’s will cannot achieve anything,” Wani added.
Wani also criticised what he described as a shifting narrative around political voices in the region. “Those who were projected as superstars a while ago are today being labelled traitors. This is unfair and unacceptable,” he remarked.
About the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in J&K, Wani said there had been no discussions so far within the party. “The high command will sit and decide about the candidates. Since the election notification, there has been no consultation yet. Once a decision is taken as to how the elections will be fought and who will contest, we will make it public,” he said—(KNO)
