Kishtwar road accident kills four of family

Kishtwar, Dec 06: At least four members of a family, including an infant were killed in a road accident in Dada Sarthal area of Kishtwar district on Saturday, officials said.

Officials informed the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a Chevrolet vehicle (DL5CE-5634) on its way to Drabshalla skid off the road and met with an accident.

“Three persons died on the spot, one critically injured was shifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead,” an official said.

The deceased have been identified as Ranjeet Singh (35), son of Poran Chand; Simran Thakur (21), daughter of Om Prakash; Ashu (6 months), daughter of Ranjeet Singh; and Jyoti Devi (30), wife of Ranjeet Singh— all residents of Doda.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh expressed grief over the tragedy.

Taking to the microblogging site X, Jitendra said, “Just now spoke to DC Kishtwar Sh Pankaj Kumar Sharma. Saddened to learn about the tragic road accident on Sarthal road in which four occupants of the vehicle, hailing from Marmat area, unfortunately lost their life. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families.” (KNO)
