BARAMULLA, DECEMBER 09: Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Baramulla, Syed Altaf Hussain Musvi, Tuesday chaired a review meeting at the Meeting Hall of the DC Office to assess the Bio-Medical Waste Management mechanisms across the district.

The meeting was convened to ensure that all health institutions and allied agencies adhere to mandated protocols for safe, scientific, and environmentally responsible disposal of bio-medical waste.

The meeting was attended by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Baramulla, Medical Superintendent Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla, and the Executive Officer Municipal Council Baramulla, along with other concerned officers.

At the outset, the ADC took a comprehensive review of the current practices being followed in segregation, storage, collection, and transportation of bio-medical waste generated from hospitals, health centres, diagnostic labs, and other healthcare facilities.

The ADC emphasized that strict compliance with the Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules is essential to prevent environmental hazards and safeguard public health.

Reiterating the administration’s commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment, the ADC said that bio-medical waste management is not only a regulatory requirement but a shared responsibility that directly impacts the health of the community.

He urged all stakeholders to work in close coordination for efficient and transparent management of biomedical waste across Baramulla district.

The ADC instructed the health institutions to ensure 100% source segregation using color-coded containers and conducting proper training to the staff to effectively implement waste disposal.

He called for strengthening coordination between the municipal authorities, the CMO office, and GMC Baramulla to ensure timely disposal without any lapses.
