Srinagar, Dec 15: The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) Division in Ganderbal has announced its comprehensive winter preparedness plan, finalizing a detailed strategy for snow clearance on its network of rural roads.

With the winter season approaching, officials have confirmed that all necessary preparations are now in place to ensure minimal disruption and maintain connectivity in the district during snowfall.

The plan covers a total of 92 roads spanning 319.06 kilometres across Ganderbal and parts of Srinagar.

The move is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted transport and essential services during harsh weather conditions. “The snow clearance operations will be carried out in close coordination with the Mechanical Engineering Department.”

Officials said that 77 roads measuring 267.19 km fall in Ganderbal district and 15 roads measuring 51.87 km are in Srinagar district.

It also said that, of the total network, 36 roads covering 158.93 km will be cleared by the Mechanical Division, while 56 roads measuring 160.13 km will be handled directly by the PMGSY Division Ganderbal.

“We are fully prepared for snow clearance operations. Men and machinery have been mobilised and stationed at critical locations to ensure a timely response,” an official from PMGSY Division Ganderbal said.

He added that priority will be given to routes leading to major habitations, hospitals, schools and other essential service locations.

The official further said that teams will remain round-the-clock on duty following the snowfall and the weather conditions will be continuously monitored to prevent road blockades and public inconvenience.

The PMGSY official also informed that 23 snow clearance contracts are currently active and ready for deployment and one additional contract is in the tendering stage. “A stage contract has also been kept available to meet emergency situations and to tackle the sudden heavy snowfall,” the official said.

The officials appealed the residents to cooperate and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy snowfall—(KNO)
