KULGAM,DECEMBER 19: A district-level Multi-Stakeholder Meeting on Child Welfare and Protection was held Friday at the Office of the Dy SP DAR, District Police Lines, Kulgam, to strengthen coordination and collective action for safeguarding children’s rights and well-being in the district.

The meeting, as per an official statement, was presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Kulgam,  Vikar Ahmad Giri, and jointly organised by the Office of the Dy SP DAR, Kulgam, and the Reform and Rehabilitation Foundation.

Senior officials from the district administration, J&K Police, Child Welfare Committee, Juvenile Justice Board, Department of Child Welfare, Panchayati Raj Institutions, University of Kashmir, and UNICEF participated in the deliberations

The discussion focused on the current child welfare and protection scenario in Kulgam, with an emphasis on reviewing existing schemes, identifying critical gaps, and improving institutional responses for vulnerable children. Stakeholders stressed the importance of child-friendly policing practices, increased awareness and sensitisation in vulnerable areas, and the urgent need to address emerging risks related to cyber safety and online exploitation of children.

Participants collectively agreed to adopt a coordinated, data-driven approach to child protection. A shared roadmap was proposed to develop a comprehensive vision for child welfare in the district, supported by systematic data collection and analysis across relevant institutions. Strengthening capacity building on cyber hygiene and enhancing regular inter-departmental coordination were highlighted as key priorities to ensure timely prevention, protection, and rehabilitation of children at risk.

The meeting concluded with a strong commitment from all stakeholders to work in close synergy and uphold a child-centric approach, recognising that sustained collaboration and evidence-based interventions are essential to ensuring the safety, dignity, and holistic development of children in District Kulgam.
