BARAMULLA, DECEMBER 22: A quarterly review meeting of the District Level Coordination Committee (DLCC) on the implementation of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003, under the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), was held under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa.
During the meeting, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), as per an official statement, Baramulla apprised the chair of the achievements recorded under the Tobacco Youth Campaign. It was informed that extensive Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities were conducted across the district, training was imparted to field staff, and sustained enforcement drives were carried out. As a result, 227 challans were issued for violations of COTPA provisions.
It was further informed that the Chief Education Officer (CEO), Baramulla has achieved nearly 70 percent compliance of educational institutions under the Tobacco-Free Educational Institutions (ToFEI) norms, reflecting significant progress in safeguarding students from exposure to tobacco.
The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the coordinated efforts of all stakeholder departments and stressed the need for continued inter-departmental convergence, effective enforcement, and community participation to further strengthen tobacco control initiatives across the district.
