Shopian, December 27: A team of Legal Aid Defence Counsels (LADC), Shopian, on Saturday conducted a jail visit to the Special Jail, Pulwama, under the leadership of Chief LADC, Rafie Ahmad Ganie.
The team was accompanied by Deputy Chief LADC, Shahnawaz Raina, Panel Lawyer, Fazial Iqbal, and PLV Shahzad Ahmad.
During the visit, the team, as per an official statement, interacted with inmates lodged in different barracks to directly assess their living conditions and to hear their grievances and concerns.
The visit primarily focused on examining access to legal remedies, availability of basic facilities, and ensuring respect for human dignity within the prison premises.
The team reviewed individual cases to identify inmates in need of legal representation, follow-up in pending legal matters, and assistance under various legal aid schemes. Special emphasis was laid on verifying the level of awareness among inmates regarding their legal rights and the support mechanisms available to them through the legal aid system.
Various cases were found to be in need of medical examination and treatment outside the jail, which were accordingly taken up with the concerned authorities for necessary action.
