Govt mulls regularising daily wagers: Minister Dar

Srinagar, Dec 31: In a significant development, the National Conference-led government on Wednesday said it is contemplating the creation of a mechanism for the regularisation of daily wagers.

Speaking to reporters, cabinet minister Javaid Ahmad Dar said the government is actively considering such a mechanism to address the issue.

“You should know that after several SROs were abolished through the Jammu & Kashmir Reorganisation Act, our efforts are now focused on creating a mechanism for the regularisation of daily wagers,” Dar said.

He added that the matter was discussed in the last council of ministers meeting.

“It would be premature to comment further, but our efforts are directed towards taking positive steps for daily wagers,” he said.

In the last budget session, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah constituted a high-level panel headed by the Chief Secretary to examine the regularisation of employees working as casual, seasonal labourers, and other workers.

The previous PDP-BJP government had enacted a regular engagement policy-SRO-520 of 2018-but only 577 workers were regularised under it—(KNO)
