2026: A New Year Of Resolve For A Viksit Bharat
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterWhatsapp

As the first dawn of 2026 breaks, it illuminates an India standing at a pivotal moment in its history. The past year has been a testament to the nation’s formidable resilience and ambition. We have cemented our status as the world’s fastest-growing major economy, a beacon of stability in a turbulent global landscape. The country achieved many milestones, which demonstrate the nation’s transition from aspirational to operational excellence. Our digital public infrastructure, from UPI to Aadhaar, continues to be a global benchmark for inclusive technology, empowering millions. Yet, as we celebrate this progress, the New Year must be a springboard for deeper, more inclusive transformation towards the goal of a Viksit Bharat—a Developed India by 2047. The path forward demands that we convert macroeconomic strength into microeconomic security for every citizen. The first critical step is to future-proof our human capital. Our demographic dividend will only pay off with a radical upgrade in education and healthcare. The National Education Policy 2020 must be implemented with urgency, shifting focus from rote learning to critical thinking, innovation, and vocational skills aligned with Industry 4.0. Simultaneously, strengthening the Ayushman Bharat ecosystem to provide quality, affordable healthcare is essential for a productive workforce. Second, we must decouple economic growth from ecological degradation. India’s leadership in renewable energy must be accelerated, but true sustainability requires a circular economy mindset. Incentivising green industries, investing in climate-resilient agriculture, and protecting our biodiversity are non-negotiable investments for the future. Third, bridging the last-mile gap in governance is paramount. Technology must be leveraged further to ensure transparent, leak-proof delivery of welfare schemes and to empower local governments. True development will be achieved only when benefits consistently reach the smallest village and the most marginalised citizen. The journey to a Viksit Bharat is a collective marathon, not a sprint. It requires the continued partnership of a proactive government, a responsible private sector, and an engaged citizenry. Let 2026 be defined by a shared national resolve: to build not just a wealthier India, but a healthier, smarter, greener, and more equitable India for all. Our actions today will define the century we inherit tomorrow.
