Baramulla, Jan 02: The body of an elderly woman, missing for nearly two months, was recovered on Friday in Kreeri area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, ending an anxious search that began in early November.

An official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that the deceased identified as Atiqa Begum, of Kreeri, had gone missing from her home on November 5, 2025. Her family had filed a missing report at Police Station Kreeri the same day after she failed to return home.

The locals informed police after noticing the body, following which a team rushed to the spot and took the body into possession, official said.

The body was later shifted to a nearby hospital for medico-legal formalities. A post-mortem examination was carried out to ascertain the cause of death, officials added.

Police said an investigation had been initiated to determine the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death. The incident triggered shock in the area, with locals calling for a thorough probe into the case. (KNO)
