Investing In Sports Crucial For Inclusive National Growth
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterWhatsapp

The national focus on sports, exemplified by initiatives like the ‘SRIJAN’ conference in Jammu & Kashmir, signifies a crucial and welcome shift in recognising sports as fundamental to nation-building. The assertion that sports serve as a “real-life school” is profoundly accurate. Beyond physical fitness, the arena of sports is where discipline is forged and teamwork is internalised. It is a powerful, neutral platform where talent is the sole currency, teaching young minds to handle victory with humility and defeat with grace. The emphasis on integrating sports with education is the strategic cornerstone of this vision. Embedding sports into the core curriculum, not as an extracurricular afterthought but as a vital component of holistic development, can transform our educational outcomes. It fosters focus, reduces stress, and instils a spirit of healthy competition.  For regions like Jammu & Kashmir, investing in a robust sports ecosystem carries added significance. It provides a constructive, aspirational outlet for youthful energy, fosters a shared identity beyond divisions, and can position the region as a hub of athletic excellence. The commitment to developing infrastructure in rural and far-flung areas is particularly praiseworthy, ensuring inclusivity and democratising access. The path forward is clear. We must build on this momentum by ensuring policy translates into practice. This requires sustained funding for grassroots facilities, professional coaching, and transparent athletic federations. Promoting women’s participation and traditional sports alongside mainstream disciplines will create a truly inclusive culture. Most importantly, we must champion sports as a viable and respected career, with clear pathways in coaching, sports management, and athletic excellence. By treating sports as a serious national priority—an engine for social cohesion, personal development, and international prestige—we invest in building not just stronger athletes, but also more disciplined, confident, and united citizens. This is how a nation truly builds its character and secures its future, one goal, one race, and one fair game at a time.
