Srinagar, Oct 07: Training of Trainers (ToT) was conducted for the officers of the rank of Sub Inspector (SI) to Deputy Superintendent of Police ( DySP ) on New Criminal Laws (NCL) from 29th September to 4th October 2025, at the District Training Center (DTC), District Police Lines (DPL), Srinagar.
The program was organized by Police Headquarters (PHQ) in collaboration with the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), a police spokesman said in a statement.
The primary aim of the training was to enhance both the legal knowledge and instructional capabilities of Police officers, enabling them to serve as trainers in their respective jurisdictions. The training focused on the New Criminal Laws and their implications on investigation and prosecution.
More than 50 police officers, of ranks ranging from Sub-Inspector (SI) to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP), participated in the training. These officers represented various districts of the Kashmir Zone.
Moreover, subject-matter experts from BPR&D and resource persons of relevant fields from Kashmir University, many reputed colleges of Srinagar and other units of Jammu & Kashmir Police conducted detailed sessions on a wide range of topics, including: Investigation Procedures under New Criminal Laws (NCL), FIR and Timelines as per NCL, Offences affecting the Human Body & Homicide Investigation, Offences Against Women and Children, Offences Against Public Tranquillity, Offences relating to Criminal Intimidation, Insult, Annoyance, and Defamation, Inquiry and Investigation Procedures, Use of Technology in Search and Seizure, Test Identification Parade & Police Accountability, Offences Against Property, Offences relating to Public Servants, Law of Arrest and Electronic Evidence, Types of Evidence and Admissibility, Dealing with Evasion: Bail, Violation to Trial in Absentia under BNS and BNSS, Strategies for Efficient Investigation, Confession and Statement Recording, Provisions relating to Bail and Bond, Role of Digital Forensics and Role of Forensic Science in Investigation and Trial etc.
These sessions provided in-depth insights into the procedural changes, legal provisions, and investigative strategies introduced under the new legal framework.
The training significantly enhanced the participants’ understanding of the New Criminal Laws and equipped them with the pedagogical skills required to disseminate this knowledge further within their respective units.
This cascading model is expected to ensure uniform understanding and effective implementation of the legal changes across the force.
The valedictory session was held at DTC, DPL Srinagar and was graced by Dr. G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy, IPS, SSP Srinagar, Manoj Pandita, AIG Trainings, PHQ and other senior officers of District Srinagar.
During the session, SSP Srinagar commended the participants and emphasized the importance of continuous professional development, especially in the face of rapidly evolving laws and technologies. He highlighted the role of trained officers as agents of change within the Police department.
This initiative reflects the J&K Police department’s commitment to capacity building, legal preparedness, and adaptation to evolving legal frameworks. This event laid the foundation for a more legally informed, technologically equipped, and instructionally capable Police force, ready to navigate the complexities of modern policing under the New Criminal Laws—(KNO)
