Srinagar, Oct 09: Ahead of the Supreme Court’s hearing regarding the restoration of Jammu & Kashmir’s statehood, senior Peoples Conference leader Imran Reza Ansari on Thursday slammed Chief Minister Abdullah over his ‘failure’ to deliver on the promise of a signature campaign made during his Independence Day speech.
In a social media post, Ansari recalled the Chief Minister’s Independence Day speech, where he had pledged to collect lakhs of signatures within eight weeks in support of restoring statehood and submit them to the Supreme Court before the October 10 hearing.
“Big talk, big promises-typical JKNC style,” Ansari said in a Facebook post.
“Now here we are, on the eve of October 10. The case is on the Supreme Court’s list for tomorrow. But where’s that famous signature campaign that was supposed to shake Delhi? Did the lakhs of signatures get lost somewhere between Gupkar and Twitter?”
Ansari questioned whether the Chief Minister, who is currently in Delhi, had gone to submit the collected signatures or merely to gather more photos for his social media accounts.
“So naturally, one wonders—has he gone to submit those ‘lakhs of signatures’ his government collected, or just to collect a few more photos for his next social media post?”
He further added, “Promises were made to the people, press releases were issued to the media, but in the end, it seems only the signatures of silence made it to Delhi.”
The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the petitions seeking restoration of statehood on October 10—(KNO)
