Srinagar, Oct 09: Days after a video showing students’ visiting a police station went viral on social media and drew widespread applause from netizens, Police have expanded the initiative across the district Srinagar and others as part of its ongoing public outreach and awareness campaign.
According to officials, guided visits were organized for school and college students at several police stations, including Shaheed Ganj, Batmaloo, Karan Nagar, Zadibal, Kothibagh, Harwan, Nowgam and Panthachowk, along with other districts in previous weeks.
“The move aims to familiarize youth with the functioning of police stations and strengthen trust between the police and the public,” a police spokesperson said in a statement.
Notably, as the earlier video gained traction online, more schools and colleges across the district came forward, expressing interest in sending their students to participate.
Meanwhile, Srinagar Police today expanded the model, replicating the visit format across multiple units to ensure greater participation and inclusivity. During the visits, Station House Officers (SHOs) led interactive sessions and guided tours, explaining the registration of FIRs, record maintenance, investigation procedures, and the role of the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) in modern policing.
The students expressed enthusiasm and appreciation for the experience. “Before today, we only had a general idea about what happens inside a police station. Seeing it firsthand and interacting with officers helped change our perception,” said a college student from Srinagar who took part in the visit.
Police officials also stressed the importance of cyber awareness and community participation in curbing crime. “Engaging youth through such awareness visits is essential for building a more informed and cooperative society,” an official said—(KNO)
