DC Shopian inaugurates 3-day sports fest for girls

 Shopian, Oct 13: A vibrant three-day sports festival dedicated to the daughters was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Shishir Gupta Monday at YSS Play Field Sindo Shirmal, Shopian.

The event was organized under the banner of “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” (BBBP) by the Department of Youth Services & Sports (DYSS), Shopian in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and featured events of Kho Kho, Volleyball and Tug off War.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner lauded the efforts of both the Youth Services & Sports Department and the Social Welfare Department for organizing such a meaningful event under the BBBP initiative.

The DC emphasized the pivotal role of sports in developing confidence, leadership and resilience among young girls, which are essential qualities for their personal and professional growth. He further added that the district administration is committed to promoting equal opportunities for girls in all spheres of life and will continue to support initiatives that nurture their talent and aspirations, urging them to pursue sports with dedication and determination.

The event aimed to promote gender equality, empowerment and inclusivity by encouraging the participation of girls in various sports disciplines and witnessed an impressive turnout of students, teachers, parents, and sports enthusiasts.

 

The sports festival was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Zakir Hussain Faaz; District Social Welfare Officer, Abrar Hussain; DYSSO, Sunil Kumar, and other officers and officials.
