Says have high regard for his father

Raja Syed Rather

Srinagar, Oct 15: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary on Wednesday said he holds great respect for senior politician Sajad Lone’s late father, but advised him (Lone) to exercise restraint in his language while making public statements.

Speaking to reporters, Choudhary recalled his earlier interactions with Sajad Lone and acknowledged his educational background and political legacy.

“I respect Sajad Lone Sahab because he is well-educated and has studied abroad. More importantly, he is the son of a man who contributed significantly to Jammu and Kashmir. I met him around 1995-96 when I was a trade union leader and we had a detailed discussion,” he said.

The Deputy CM said that while he continues to regard Sajad Lone as a “brother,” he was disappointed by his recent remarks in a video clip that has been circulating on social media.

“I saw his video yesterday. I want to remind Sajad that his late father had his own ideology, but he maintained civility and culture in his language. I would request Sajad Sahab to be mindful of that legacy,” Choudhary said.

He further stated that their past political associations and discussions have always been respectful and constructive.

“We have sat together, even when he was a minister. My intention is not to criticize, but to advise. I hope he doesn’t take my words otherwise,” he added.

On political issues, Choudhary responded to Sajad Lone’s alleged remarks targeting another politician.

“He directly accused Rajesh of being with the BJP. My question is: if you’re against the BJP, then support the candidate who is contesting against them. Why abstain? Why not take a clear stand?” he asked.

Calling it a “test of sincerity,” the Deputy CM said that this is the time for all leaders and self-proclaimed sympathizers of Jammu and Kashmir to show where they truly stand.

“This is not just about Sajad Lone. Anyone who claims to stand with the people of J&K must prove it now — through action, not just words,” he said—(KNO)
