Srinagar, Oct 30: The Legislative Assembly of Jammu & Kashmir on Thursday passed four bills without much debate and discussion.

As per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the House passed four bills- “Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Bill, 2025, “Jammu and Kashmir Shops and Establishments (Licensing, Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Bill, 2025”, “Jammu and Kashmir Cooperative Societies (Amendment) Bill, 2025” and “Jammu and Kashmir Tenancy Bill, 2025”.

The Bills were passed by the House through a voice vote.

As per details, the Jammu & Kashmir Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Bill, 2025 proposes to enhance the upper age limit of state election commissioner from existing 65 to 70.

The Tenancy Act-2025 is a new legislation for establishing Rent Authority to regulate renting of premises and to protect the interests of landlords and tenants and to provide speedy adjudication mechanism for resolution of disputes.

The Jammu and Kashmir Shops and Establishments (Licensing, Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Bill, 2025 provides for regulation of employment and other conditions of service of workers employed in shops and establishments.

The Jammu & Kashmir Cooperative Societies (Amendment) Bill, 2025 seeks to streamline the appellate process for cooperative societies by omitting Section 157, which had mandated the Government to constitute a separate Cooperative Appellate Tribunal. (KNO)
