Srinagar, Oct 31: The Health and Medical Education (H&ME) Department has acknowledged a shortage of specialists within the department.

Responding to a question by MLA Sunil Kumar Sharma, Health Minister Sakeena Itoo, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said in a written reply that there is currently a deficit of specialists.

She, however, assured that once specialists are available, the posts of Anaesthesiologist and Gynaecologist at SDH Paddar will be prioritised for filling.

The minister said that instructions have been issued to the Chief Medical Officer, Kishtwar, to ensure that specialist services are provided at SDH Paddar on a rotational basis until suitable arrangements, either regular or academic, are put in place by the competent authorities.

Itoo further said the department has already referred 197 Gazetted cadre posts to the JKPSC, and 1,132 posts are in the process of referral as the Recruitment Rules are nearing finalisation.

She added that 772 Non-Gazetted posts have been referred to the JKSSB, while 804 posts are under submission to the Finance Department for approval.

“The department is actively working to finalise the Recruitment Rules in collaboration with relevant departments and stakeholders,” the Health Minister said. (KNO)
