DDC Chairman, DC flag off Run for Unity

KATHUA, NOVEMBER 1: The district administration Kathua Saturday organised a Unity Padyatra to commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, popularly known as the “Iron Man of India.”

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, youth, citizens and government functionaries, celebrating the ideals of unity, integrity and patriotism championed by Sardar Patel.

The programme, held at the Auditorium Hall of Government Degree College for Women, commenced with the lighting of the traditional lamp followed by floral tributes to Bharat Mata and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The atmosphere was filled with patriotic fervour as participants paid homage to the great leader who played a pivotal role in integrating the princely states to form a united India.

The Unity Padyatra was flagged off by DDC Chairman Col (Retd.), Mahan Singh in presence of Deputy Commissioner, Rajesh Sharma, senior officers from different departments, college faculty, students and general public.

The rally traversed through prominent locations of Kathua town, spreading the message of unity and patriotism, before culminating at the Auditorium of Government Degree College for Boys.

At the final venue, the students presented colourful cultural performances, highlighting the rich traditions and unity of the nation. The participants took a Unity pledge led by the Chief Guest, reaffirming their   commitment to uphold the spirit of oneness and national integrity.

Speaking on the occasion, DDC Chairman Col (Retd), Mahan Singh paid glowing tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, describing him as the architect of modern India whose visionary leadership and resolute determination ensured the political and territorial integration of the country. He urged the youth to draw inspiration from Patel’s life and dedicate themselves to the service of the nation with honesty and unity of purpose.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner, Rajesh Sharma appreciated the active participation of students, educational institutions and line departments for making the event a grand success. He said that the Unity Padyatra serves as a reminder of Sardar Patel’s unparalleled contribution to national integration and reinforces the message of unity amidst diversity. He appreciated DYO NYK Kathua, Koushal Mahajan for making efforts to make the event grand and inclusive.

As a mark of encouragement, mementos were presented to the students who participated in the Rangoli competition and cultural performances, acknowledging their creativity and contribution to the celebrations.

The event concluded with a collective pledge to uphold the values of integrity, brotherhood and national unity – the very ideals for which Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel dedicated his life.
