J&K, Ladakh co-host 81st NRPC meet in Srinagar

Srinagar, Nov 04: For the first time, the UTs of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh co-hosted 81st NRPC meetings at Srinagar’s SKICC. The JKPTCL acted as the host corporation, with support from JKPDC and LPDD, marking a collaborative effort in the region’s power sector discourse.

Northern Regional Power Committee (NRPC), a statutory body established under the Electricity Act, 2003, responsible for the integrated, stable, and smooth operation of the power system in the Northern Region of India, held its 56th Technical Coordination Committee(TCC) and 81st Northern Regional Power Committee (NRPC) Meetings at Sher-I-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) Srinagar on 30th & 31st October 2025.

In a statement issued, the officials said that the UT of J&K and Ladakh jointly hosted these high level Meetings for the first time, with JKPTCL served as the host Corporation of JKPDD, assisted by JKPDC and LPDD.

“Both these Committees are also for the first time headed by the IAS officers of UT of J&K, TCC headed by Gurpal Singh and NRPC headed by Shailender Kumar (Financial Commissioner/Additional Chief Secretary),” it reads.

The Meetings were attended by Hemant Jain, Member (Grid Operation and Distribution) Central Electricity Authority (CEA) , Member Secretary NRPC, Smt Rishika Sharan ,her team of NRPC Secretariat and high level dignitaries of Northern Power utilities, Managing Directors, Executive Directors, Member Secretary Western Regional Power Committee (WRPC), Member Secretary North East Regional Power Committee (NERPC), Top level Management of NRLDC, PGCIL and other delegates/ senior Officers from all the states/UTs of Northern Region viz a viz UT of Jammu and Kashmir & Ladakh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh & UT of Delhi , with approximate participation of delegates of around 130.

In the meeting, Executive Engineer MD JKPTCL Eng Mohmmad Amin Nayak  and Eng Sunil Kumar Bhat Assistant Engineer MD JKPTCL respectively played the role of coordinator and nodal officer for the NRPC meet in Srinagar.

The press statement further states that on October-30, Meeting of TCC was held under the chairmanship of Gurpal Singh (IAS), wherein Vital Agendas of various Power utilities PSUs/ Corporations related to the issues of Grid Operation and Stability, Coordination and Planning, Power Transfer, System Protection, Energy Accounting and Commercial Matters, Consensus Building, low voltage problems, Emergency restoration system in case of natural disasters were taken up for deliberations. After exhaustive deliberations, on every agenda point, Consensus on placement before the NRPC were arrived at in most of the Agendas.

PGCIL was advised to extend full Cooperation to the State/ UT Transmission utilities, specifically in the event of system eventuality and natural calamities in the emergency restoration works.

The meeting emphasized upon collaborative efforts among all stakeholders, to meet the operational challenges of the Transmission network of Northern India.

It also said that on October-31, Meeting of the NRPC under the chairmanship of worthy Shailender Kumar (IAS) (Financial Commissioner/Additional Chief Secretary) was held, wherein Agendas deliberated and cleared by TCC were taken up for granting final nod and action by the respective Transmission Utilities thereof.

After the welcome address, Chairperson NRPC gave a detailed overview of the Power Sector of J&K and the challenges/ constraints thereupon. Steps being taken which includes Loss reduction, infrastructure upgradation and modernization were highlighted by the Chairperson in his speech.

The high-level Meeting concluded with vote of thanks to all the participant dignitaries and with a renewed commitment to, strive and achieve the objectives of the discussions and deliberations held during the meetings—(KNO)
