Srinagar, Nov 14: Newly elected legislator from Budgam, Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi on Friday said his victory in Budgam by-election is the outcome of “50 years of hard work” and reflects the people’s response to the “neglect” they faced in 2024.

Speaking to reporters after securing a decisive win for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mehdi said the mandate carries a message that political change in Jammu & Kashmir would begin from Budgam. “This is a result of our hard work of 50 years. The way people of Budgam were neglected in 2024, today the people of Budgam have given a befitting reply,” he said.

Mehdi added that the by-election result would have wider political implications across the Union Territory. “If we want to bring about a change in the lives of the people of J&K, it will start with Budgam,” he said.

He also said the verdict sends a clear signal to the National Conference (NC), which had held the constituency for decades. “Today’s verdict will force the National Conference to fulfil the promises it made to the people of J&K,” Mehdi said.

PDP’s win marks the party’s first-ever victory in Budgam, ending the NC’s long-standing control over the seat—(KNO)
