Shopian, November, 19: The District Administration Shopian Wednesday organised a capacity building and orientation Training programme under  J&K IEC Campaign against Drug Abuse here at Mini-Secretariat.

The training was imparted to Principals, Headmasters and masters designated by the School education department for making a dedicated and trained human resource for drug and substance abuse awareness across the district.

The initiative is part of a larger district -wide campaign to eradicate drug abuse and create a safer and healthier environment for youth.

The training embodies the commitment of the District Administration to endeavour and take concrete steps under the banner of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, ensuring meaningful grassroots-level impact through employing services of an equipped team of trainers/counsellors.

The programme focused on early identification of risk factors, sensitisation on the harmful effects of substance abuse and equipping trainees with strategies to create a drug-free and supportive environment for students.

Resource persons emphasised strengthening counseling mechanisms, engaging parents and promoting co-curricular activities aimed at enhancing student well-being.

During the session, professionals from Addiction Treatment Facility, District Hospital Shopian, Police and Education departments emphasized the growing concern of drug abuse among adolescents and highlighted the crucial role educational institutions play in early prevention. They explained in detail the physical, psychological and social consequences of substance abuse.

Speaking on the occasion, Master Trainer, Dy.SP, Shopian, Mohammed Ashraf sensitised about the rising challenges of drug abuse and shared responsibility in combating it along with highlighting NDPS Act and other legal provisions.

 Medical Officer, ATF threw light on various aspects of drug abuse, highlighting its  harmful physical, psychological and social consequences. He elaborated on the causes, symptoms and long-term impact of drug abuse.

Other Trainers from the Education department explained the ill-effects of drug abuse on youth, emphasizing preventive measures and the importance of early counselling and collective responsibility of society to curb the menace.
