DESJK hosts one-day GeM training workshop

JAMMU, NOVEMBER 19: The Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Jammu & Kashmir (DESJK) organized a One-Day Training Workshop on the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) for the Drawing & Disbursing Officers (DDOs) of Jammu Division, here Wednesday.

The programme was held under the aegis of the Regional Director Evaluation & Statistics Jammu Ashu Gupta with an aim to strengthen digital procurement practices across the region.

The workshop was graced by Director General, Economics & Statistics J&K, Satvir Kour Sudan. She delivered the inaugural address and highlighted the Jammu & Kashmir Government’s strong thrust on adopting digital, paper-light and transparent procurement systems, in alignment with the broader vision of good governance and administrative reforms.

The technical sessions were led by Senior Consultant Government e-Marketplace (GeM), Sarthak Khoda and Senior Assistant Director (GeM), Amir Ali as the key resource persons. They provided hands-on training on different aspects of GeM operations, including vendor selection, bid management, order placement, contract execution and payment processes through PFMS. The resource persons also addressed practical challenges commonly faced by departments and offered actionable solutions to streamline procurement workflows.

Participants included Chief Planning Officers, the Principal School of Applied Economics & Statistics, District Statistics & Evaluation Officers, DDOs and officers and officials from the Directorate of Economics &Statistics, Regional Director Evaluation & Statistics, Jammu and several other offices of Jammu Division. The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation, reflecting the growing commitment of field officers toward adopting transparent and efficient procurement systems.

Speaking on the occasion, the Regional Director Jammu Ashu Gupta emphasized the crucial role of DDOs in implementing procurement reforms at the grassroots level. He reiterated the Directorate’s commitment to continuous capacity building and strengthening institutional frameworks to ensure accountability, integrity and seamless integration of digital governance tools across the Jammu Division.

The workshop concluded with an interactive session during which participants raised queries and shared challenges faced in their respective offices. The initiative is expected to significantly enhance the efficiency, accuracy and transparency of procurement activities undertaken by the participating offices.
