ANANTNAG, NOVEMBER 28:  The Postgraduate Department of Pharmacology, Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, under the guidance of Principal and Dean, Prof. Dr. Rukhsana Najeeb, observed Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness Week from November 18-24, 2025, with a series of community outreach activities.

The theme for this year’s awareness week was “Act Now: Protect Our Present, Secure Our Future.”

As part of the global initiative to combat the growing threat of drug-resistant infections, the department organised awareness visits, field visits, rallies, and competitions to promote responsible antibiotic use and highlight the importance of collective responsibility in curbing AMR.

The activities, as per an official statement issued on Friday, included awareness visits to GMC Anantnag Hospital Janglat Mandi, field visits to Primary Health Centres (PHCs) at Sagam and Brakapora, and Maternity Hospital, Sherbagh. During these visits, faculty members and students interacted with patients, caregivers, and healthcare staff, emphasizing the need for judicious antibiotic use.

Undergraduate MBBS students actively participated in rallies and helped disseminate key messages to the community. A quiz and poster competition was also organized for Phase 2 MBBS students, which saw enthusiastic participation and reflected a strong academic interest in AMR.

Through these activities, GMC Anantnag reaffirmed its commitment to promoting awareness about antimicrobial resistance and encouraging responsible practices among healthcare professionals, patients, and the community.

The event was well-received, and the college hopes that it will contribute to a broader understanding of the issue and inspire collective action to address this critical public health concern.
