BARAMULLA, DECEMBER 05: Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, Friday chaired a meeting at Dak Bungalow Sopore to review major civic issues pertaining to Sub-Division Sopore and Town Sopore.

The meeting, as per an official statement, focused on illegal mining, traffic regulation, drinking water supply, removal of non-functional electric and BSNL poles, and the designation of organized vending zones.

The meeting was attended by Superintendent of Police Sopore, ADC Sopore, Executive Magistrates, officers from line departments, Police and representatives from Civil Society Sopore, Traders Federation, and various vendor groups.

During the interaction, several issues were raised by civil society members, traders, and vendors, particularly concerning traffic congestion, encroachments, designated place for vendors, drinking water supply, and the need for streamlined urban regulation.

The DC directed all concerned departments to intensify patrolling and enforcement against illegal mining, ensuring strict action against violators.

For traffic regulation, he instructed officers to remove bottlenecks, clear road obstructions, and immediately remove defunct electric and BSNL poles obstructing vehicular movement.

Emphasizing the importance of public convenience, the DC called for strengthening the drinking water supply system and ensuring timely grievance redressal. He also directed municipal authorities to identify proper vending zones to facilitate organized vendor activities without affecting traffic flow or pedestrian movement.

Later, the DC also handed over 9 sanction letters under PMAY-U to eligible beneficiaries, urging them to complete their construction works within the stipulated timeframe while reaffirming the administration’s commitment to ensuring timely access to centrally sponsored housing benefits.

The meeting concluded with the DC directing officers to work in close coordination for time-bound redressal of public issues and effective implementation of development and welfare programmes across the district.
