SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 05: The Directorate of Agriculture Kashmir Friday celebrated ‘World Soil Day 2025’ across the entire Kashmir Division through a series of awareness and extension programmes.

Addressing the gathering at the main event organised at the Directorate Complex, Lal Mandi, Srinagar, Joint Director Agriculture (Extension) Kashmir, Madan Gopal Singh, as per an official statement, emphasised that healthy soil is the foundation of food security and environmental sustainability. He called upon farmers to adopt balanced fertilisation, organic inputs, crop rotation and conservation agriculture practices to preserve soil fertility for future generations.

Experts delivered technical lectures and in-depth deliberations were held on the 2025 global theme “Healthy Soil for Healthy Cities”, highlighting the crucial role of soil health in urban and peri-urban farming, climate resilience, carbon sequestration and sustainable food production.

Parallel events including farmer-scientist interactions, soil health card distribution and field demonstrations were conducted across all districts by respective Chief Agriculture Officers.

The programmes across the division were attended by Officers, subject matter specialists, progressive farmers, agri-entrepreneurs and students attended in large numbers

It is pertinent to mention that the World Soil Day is observed globally on 5th December every year to raise awareness about the importance of sustaining healthy soils.
