Reviews monitoring of under-trial cases in Kashmir zone

Srinagar, Dec 05: IGP Kashmir V. K. Birdi, IPS, chaired a review meeting on the ongoing monitoring of under-trial cases with district SSsP, Law Officers and Pairvi Officers of Kashmir Zone at PCR Kashmir today. The meeting was attended by all range DIsG, district SSsP, Law Officers, Public Prosecutors and Pairvi Officers.

According to a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), IGP Kashmir opened the session by outlining the agenda. District SSsP then gave brief presentations on their progress in case disposal and follow-up, especially in ensuring convictions in under-trial and under-investigation cases. The discussions covered general crime matters, with a special focus on NDPS and UAPA cases, absconders and other offenses. The status of preventive actions and pending inquest proceedings was also reviewed.

IGP appreciated the efforts of district heads and Law Officers in crime prevention and stressed the need to further strengthen the quality of investigations. He underlined the importance of improving conviction rates through better investigation practices, greater use of scientific tools and a stronger follow-up system, particularly for narcotics and terror-related cases.

He also took stock of the overall security situation in the Kashmir Zone. He emphasized the role of non-kinetic measures, including strengthening the security grid, setting up dynamic nakas and maintaining regular surveillance of ANEs.

In conclusion, the IGP reaffirmed the J&K Police’s commitment to maintaining safety and security in the region. He encouraged officers to uphold transparency and accountability, and to ensure timely disposal of cases to secure convictions and protect the rights and safety of citizens. (KNO)
