SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 6: Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC),  Faz Lul Haseeb, Saturday chaired a high-level review meeting at the SMC Central Office, Karan Nagar, to evaluate the Corporation’s readiness for snow clearance and dewatering operations ahead of the winter season.

The meeting, as per an official statement was attended by Joint Commissioners, Executive Engineers, Chief Sanitation Officer, Chief Transport Officer, Stores Officer, and other senior officials.

The Commissioner assessed a comprehensive deployment plan for workforce and machinery across all municipal wards to ensure timely and efficient snow clearance. He directed officers to prioritize key public routes, particularly those connecting hospitals, ration depots, shrines, and government institutions, to ensure uninterrupted accessibility during snowfall.

Highlighting SMC’s enhanced capabilities, the Commissioner stated that the Corporation is equipped with state-of-the-art snow clearance machinery, advanced dewatering systems, and modern mobility support, enabling SMC to respond swiftly and effectively to winter-related challenges.

To ensure seamless coordination, the Commissioner instructed the Snow Monitoring Committee and the 24×7 Control Room to maintain full operational readiness. “The 24×7 Control Room must remain proactive and responsive to public concerns, ensuring immediate action on snow clearance and related issues,” he emphasized.

On dewatering preparedness, the Commissioner directed that all permanent dewatering stations be maintained in optimal working condition. He also stressed the rapid deployment of high-capacity mobile pumps in vulnerable and low-lying areas to mitigate waterlogging.

Reiterating the Corporation’s commitment to public safety and service continuity, the Commissioner affirmed that SMC’s modern infrastructure, proactive planning, and dedicated workforce form the core of its winter response strategy.

He noted that the Corporation is fully geared to keep Srinagar accessible, safe, and resilient throughout the winter season.
