Srinagar, Dec 09: The Union Education Ministry has informed the Lok Sabha that nine new polytechnic institutes have been established in Jammu and Kashmir under the centrally sponsored scheme that were implemented by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE).

The scheme focuses on expanding access to technical education in unserved and underserved areas, with support for infrastructure such as classrooms, labs, hostels and industry-linked training.

The ministry further said that a total of 170 polytechnics have been established across the country under this component. “J&K is among the States and UTs where new polytechnics were set up under the component ‘Setting up of New Polytechnic’ as part of the national skill development initiative.”

The government added that quality enhancement measures, including monitoring mechanisms and the recently launched MERITE scheme is aimed at improving governance and academic standards in technical institutions.

It is being implemented nationwide, benefiting polytechnics in Jammu & Kashmir as well—(KNO)
