Srinagar, Dec 11: Jammu and Kashmir has issued 15,44,120 e-challans for traffic violations in 2024 wherein the concerned authorities have recovered fines of Rs 41.42 crore, Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways informed Lok Sabha on Thursday.

Ladakh UT has reported very minimal enforcement activity.

As per the data of ministry, e-challan enforcement in J&K has increased steadily over the last three years. The UT issued 4,35,530 challans in 2022, 12,38,589 in 2023 and 15,44,120 in 2024.

Despite the rising number of challans, unpaid fines have surged with Rs 15.08 crore in 2022, Rs 52.41 crore in 2023 and a significantly higher Rs 93.03 crore in 2024 remain pending.

In Ladakh, enforcement remains limited. The UT recorded 12 e-challans in 2022, 92 in 2023, and a nominal fine recovery of Rs 2,900 in 2022 and Rs 37,200 in 2023. “No major unpaid challan amount has been reported for the region.”—(KNO)
