UDHAMPUR, DECEMBER 11: Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Saloni Rai Thursday chaired a meeting of the District Environmental Plan Committee to review the District Environment Plan and assess the implementation of key environmental initiatives in the district.

The DC directed the concerned departments to expedite the finalization of the plan and strictly enforce the ban on polythene. She instructed departments to adhere to SOPs in waste segregation and disposal at designated composting sites. The Municipal Bodies and Rural Development Department were tasked with preventing any accumulation of waste near educational institutions, hospitals, public places and along major roads.

The DC laid special emphasis on the scientific disposal of biomedical waste to safeguard public health. To further enhance environmental hygiene, the Municipal Council, Jal Shakti Department and Irrigation & Flood Control Department were directed to launch massive cleanliness drives of nallahs and water channels across both urban and rural areas.

She also called for the installation of dustbins at key public locations and stressed the timely implementation of major environmental interventions, including the establishment of effluent treatment plants, solid waste management facilities and plastic waste processing units.

The DC urged all departments to work in close coordination to ensure effective execution of the District Environment Plan for a cleaner and healthier Udhampur.
