Srinagar, Dec 13: Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi on Saturday said that military actions like ‘Operation Sindoor’ underline the need for close coordination between diplomacy and decisive military offensive in an increasingly complex security environment.
Reviewing the 157th Passing Out Parade at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) here, General Dwivedi, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said, “Modern conflict now spans military, technological and societal domains, requiring armed forces to adapt continuously.”
He said the nature of warfare has evolved, placing greater responsibility on young officers to respond to fluid situations with sound judgement, adaptability and integrity.
Referring to “Operation Sindoor,” the Army Chief said contemporary military engagements demand synchronised decision-making across multiple levels, combining strategic restraint with operational readiness.
He said the Indian Army continues to transform through modernisation and innovation to meet emerging challenges and safeguard national interests.
A total of 525 Officer Cadets, including 34 cadets from 14 friendly foreign nations, were commissioned during the ceremony.
The newly commissioned officers belong to the 157th Regular Course, 46th Technical Entry Scheme Course, 140th Technical Graduate Course, 55th Special Commissioned Officers Course and the Territorial Army Online Entrance Examination 2023 Course.
General Dwivedi congratulated the cadets on completing their training and said the profession of arms demands commitment, discipline and readiness to serve the nation under all circumstances.
He said officers must lead from the front and act as role models for their troops, particularly in situations marked by uncertainty and operational pressure.
The Army Chief said leadership in future conflicts would be tested by ambiguous threats and rapidly changing operational landscapes.
He said officers would be required to take decisions without complete information while maintaining ethical conduct and operational effectiveness.
He also acknowledged the role of instructors and staff at the Indian Military Academy in shaping officers equipped for modern military challenges. He thanked the parents of the cadets for their trust and contribution to the nation’s defence.
The parade also reflected India’s growing defence engagement with friendly countries, with foreign cadets commissioning alongside Indian officers. The Army Chief said bonds forged during training contribute to long-term military cooperation and shared security interests.
The ceremony concluded with the traditional ‘Antim Pag’, marking the transition of cadets into commissioned officers of the Indian Army.
Among the awards presented, Academy Cadet Adjutant Nishkal Dwivedi received the Sword of Honour and the Gold Medal for standing first in the overall order of merit. The Chief of the Army Staff Banner for overall excellence was awarded to Imphal Company.
The Indian Military Academy said the passing out parade reaffirmed its role in producing officers prepared to serve in a security environment shaped by evolving threats and complex operations such as Operation Sindoor. (KNO)
