Srinagar, Dec 25: Christmas was celebrated with devotion and quiet joy at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Srinagar on Thursday amid the chill of December.

The church, situated in the heart of the city, Lal Chowk Srinagar, became a symbol of peace and attraction as members of the Christian community gathered to mark the birth of Jesus Christ.

With hymns filling the air and the tune of “Jingle Bells” faintly echoing in the background, the faithful attended special Mass prayers that focused on compassion, harmony and goodwill.

The church premises were adorned with lights, stars and a Christmas tree reflecting both simplicity and spirit.

“We prayed for peace and prosperity for everyone in Jammu and Kashmir,” a member of the Church told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).  “The festival is not just a celebration, but a reminder of faith and love in testing times.”

Officials ensured elaborate security arrangements and smooth traffic movement around the church, allowing worshippers to attend the services without hindrance. “Everything remained peaceful, people came with warmth in their hearts,” an officer posted outside the venue said.

Church authorities expressed gratitude to the administration for its cooperation and to the local community for maintaining an atmosphere of mutual respect and friendship.

Meanwhile, political leaders extended greetings to the people, wishing peace, joy and harmony for all communities on the blessed occasion of Christmas, as they too were present at Church. (KNO)
