BUDGAM, DECEMBER 29:.SKUAST-Kashmir, Krishi Vigyan Kendra – Budgam organised an Entrepreneurs Awareness Programme (EAP) on Livelihood Opportunities in Secondary Agriculture for rural youth at its campus Monday.
The programme, as per an official statement, approved through the Directorate of Planning and Monitoring of SKUAST-K, was aimed to create an enabling environment for enterprises to emerge and flourish thereby generating a skilled agri and allied sectors workforce in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Bhinish Shakeel, Senior Scientist and Training Co-ordinator, presented a brief overview of role of KVK in skill training for entrepreneurship development through secondary agriculture. She urged the trainees to introspect their available resources and build their knowledge and skill sets through such trainings to establish newer livelihoods through diversification of these traditional agricultural occupations.
Dr. Shabeer Ahmad, SMS Plant Pathology briefed the trainees about livelihood options in secondary agriculture. Trainees were further enlightened by Sana Aftab, a budding entrepreneur, in hand-made cold-process soap making shared her experience of utilising local flora, medicinal and aromatic plants for cosmetic purpose.
The programme witnessed participation of scientists of KVK and over 60 participants who expressed keen interest in the programme.
The programme underlines SKUAST-Ks commitment to foster a culture of agripreneurhip, among the rural youth, through information dissemination under the Directorate of Extension, giving impetus to agriculture and allied sectors in the valley.
