Gulmarg, Dec 31: The world-famous ski resort Gulmarg is witnessing massive tourist arrivals as New Year celebrations kicked off with grandeur, snow and music on Wednesday.

According to the details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the destination has registered nearly full occupancy in hotels and guesthouses, turning it into the hub of winter festivities in Kashmir.

“In view of the heavy footfall, extensive security and logistical arrangements have been put in place to ensure the smooth conduct of the festivities. Adequate deployment of police and rescue teams, crowd management systems and medical facilities have been stationed across the resort to cater to the rush of visitors,” said an official.

Chief Executive Officer, Gulmarg Development Authority, Tariq Hussain Naik, while welcoming tourists, expressed gratitude to nature and the visitors for making Gulmarg come alive this season. “Nature has always been kind to Gulmarg and this snowfall was much needed for the tourism industry, which is the backbone of the Valley,” he said.

The CEO added that the destination has always remained the first choice for tourists across the country. “With prayers for peace, we welcome everyone and assure that we remain committed to maintaining a united, vibrant and secure Gulmarg.”

He said that the local community’s warmth and hospitality transform visitors into ambassadors of Kashmir’s positive image. “With love, care and positivity, tourists carry the message of harmony wherever they go. We thank them for choosing Gulmarg and assure that we will always be here to serve them,” he said.

Earlier, the Department of Tourism, along with the Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA), inaugurated a seven-day Winter Carnival that features a lineup of snow sports, skiing events, musical evenings, and cultural shows.

The initiative aims to celebrate Gulmarg’s winter charm while promoting the message of peace, hospitality and unity from Kashmir to the rest of the country. (KNO)
