Srinagar sees development push under CM Omar: Tanvir Sadiq

Srinagar, 09 Jan: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Chief Spokesperson and MLA Zadibal Tanvir Sadiq Friday said that Srinagar is witnessing a visible and meaningful wave of development under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, with focused attention being given to all constituencies of the city, including downtown and peripheral areas.

He made these remarks during an extensive tour of several areas of the Zadibal constituency, including Lal Bazar, Bharar, Alamdar Colony, Soura, Alamgiri Bazar, Dal, Mir Behri and adjoining localities, where he interacted with residents, traders, youth and elders.

He said that after years of stagnation and selective development, Srinagar is finally receiving the attention it deserves. “What was left in 2014 was allowed to deteriorate for years due to the lack of a holistic vision. It is only under the National Conference government led by Omar Abdullah that equitable and city-wide development has once again become a priority,” he said.

Highlighting the work being undertaken in Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq said the constituency, which includes some of the most densely populated and historically significant areas of Srinagar, is witnessing focused interventions in road connectivity, drainage systems, public spaces, community infrastructure and urban renewal. He noted that long-pending projects from Lal Bazar to Bharar, Alamgiri Bazar to Soura, Makdoom Sahib, Dargah Hazratbal and Mir Behri Dal are now being executed on the ground.

Sadiq said his vision is to develop Zadibal as a model constituency reflecting the larger goal of making Srinagar one of the finest cities in the country. “If Zadibal rises, Srinagar rises with it. Development takes time, but with sustained effort and political will, we are firmly on the right track,” he said.

He expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for personally conceiving, approving and monitoring major development projects across Srinagar. “From urban infrastructure to heritage conservation, road widening, beautification of chowks, and renovation of shrines, the Chief Minister’s vision is reshaping the city,” he added.

He further said that the government is simultaneously addressing long-standing issues such as traffic congestion, road bottlenecks, inadequate drainage, lack of community halls, and systematic beautification of religious and cultural sites including Astans and shrines.

“The aim is not merely to build roads and drains, but to restore Srinagar’s dignity, heritage and liveability through inclusive, balanced and people-centric development,” he said.

He assured the people that grievances raised during the visits will be taken up with the concerned departments for prompt redressal, reiterating that the National Conference government remains committed to transparent, sustainable and inclusive development across Srinagar.
