BANDIPORA, JANUARY 10: Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, Saturday chaired a meeting of the Multi-Disciplinary Monitoring Committee to review environmental aspects related to the Kishanganga Hydroelectric (HE) Project.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner, as per an official statement, emphasized that all concerned departments should keep comprehensive plans ready for future allocation of funds and ensure that available resources are utilized judiciously and effectively. Detailed discussions were held on various mitigation measures aimed at addressing environmental and livelihood impacts arising from the project.
On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner directed the Agriculture Department, in coordination with other allied departments, to assess baseline data to ascertain department-wise losses and impacts. It was further stressed that the district is considering engaging experts for project formulation to ensure scientific assessment and credible analysis.
The meeting also stressed the importance of coordinated data sharing. Departments including IWMP, Horticulture, Social Forestry, Irrigation & Flood Control, Animal Husbandry, Divisional Forest Office, Agriculture, Fisheries and Wildlife were directed to share baseline data pertaining to the project, particularly with regard to impacted revenue villages, catchment areas, conservation measures and other affected parameters.
The Deputy Commissioner underlined that accurate baseline and impact data would form the foundation for effective mitigation planning and sustainable environmental management related to the Kishanganga HE Project.
Among others, the meeting was attended by ACD Bandipora, ACP Bandipora, CAO Bandipora, CHO Bandipora, Project Officer IWMP Bandipora, ExEn I&FC Bandipora, representatives of Social Forestry, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Wildlife Departments.
