Baramulla, Jan 13: The Ministry of Home Affairs and Jammu & Kashmir Home Department have sanctioned over 500 bunkers for villages along the Line of Control (LoC) in Baramulla district, with construction slated to begin in April.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa said the locations have been identified by the SDM Uri, prioritising villages within a 0-5 km radius of the LoC and shelling-prone villages.

“The first phase will cover over 500 bunkers, with numbers slated to increase progressively in subsequent phases,” Sherpa said.

The DC said the Housing and Urban Development department has completed work on the revised Master Plan for Baramulla, Sopore and Pattan townships.

“A dedicated vendor has been appointed, and all the requisite inputs, including village details, purpose activities and datasets have been submitted to the GTP office,” the DC said, adding that the plans are expected to be re-notified soon.

The demand for the bunkers along the LoC and shelling-prone villages echoed post LoC tensions in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack in April 2024—(KNO)
